Forging Industry undergoing restructuring and modernisation

In this restructuring period of Polish history, the necessity of consolidation and introduction of recent technologies in our industry is well grounded and obvious. In forging branch, the production capacity of drop and open die forgings is quite large: Poland is the sixth European manufacturer of these products, just after Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain and Spain. Forgings are produced by more then 50 firms in Poland, of which 6 % only are big-business ones (annual production > 20000 tons).

There are about 30 drop and 8 open die forges in Poland, and 40 other business units where forging is a part of their economic activity only. These are mostly small and medium business firms with five, six, seven or - in case of the biggest ones - some dozen of employees. Annual total production capacity of all Polish forges lies between 350 and 400 thousand tons of products, including about 200 thousand tons of drop forges. According to statistical data, this capacity is far above actual production: not more then 50-70% of the capacity is used at present. About 60% of production is exported and 10% is imported at the same time.

In general, the Polish manufacturers make drop forgings up to 350 kg and open die forgings up to 70 000 kg. Their technical equipment make it possible to produce forgings that meet the latest quality standards.
